SPAM became a beloved staple in Hawai’i during WWII, thanks to the creativity of Barbara Funamura. In 1982, she crafted the first-ever SPAM Musubi right here on Kaua’i at her shop, Joni Hana, in Kukui Grove Shopping Center. Her creation quickly became a hit across the islands and remains one of Hawai’i’s most iconic local favorites.

Founded in 2020 by Kaua’i natives, the Kakalia and Aguinaldo ʻohana, The Musubi Truck brings a fresh twist to this classic. We’re all about combining popular local flavors with nori and rice, creating musubi meals that are fun, filling, and easy to enjoy on the go. With a commitment to honoring and elevating Mrs. Funamura’s original recipe, we aim to offer you a bite of aloha you'll never forget.
